Identification in instrumentation is critical.
Because much of the equipment in most plants is interconnected, the use of proper labeling ensures safety and provides easier understanding of the system when it’s time for upgrades and repairs. Whether it’s for the manufacturing of equipment or field marking, having everything properly labeled and marked from beginning to end is of the utmost importance.
The choice of identification is specific to the job or plant, and engineers know what information is needed on what equipment. Instrumentation identifiers can be labels, lamicoids, shrink tube sleeves, polyethylene tags, metal tags or metal plates
Correctly marking the products is essential to all plant process operations. Not having a tag or label on parts and equipment will waste time and money, notwithstanding the physical dangers of having component identification unreadable or missing entirely.
Each component must get a unique identifier that is important in defining process operations, such as: “Open valve ESDV-400 to 50%”. Before technicians begin making adjustments or repairs, it is crucial that all parties know what component operating parameters are, such as: “What is the PSI?” or “How much flow is required?” Proper identification facilitates this.
Proper instrumentation identification ensures safety and effectiveness in all aspects of industrial plant operations.
