Now that summer has arrived in Canada, it’s time to review your label printer and wire marker printer inventory and do some maintenance.
Printers are generally used by a number of operators, and some are more diligent about maintenance than others. Let’s use summer as a reminder to schedule some label printing maintenance.
Some basic questions to answer:
- Are all the power cords and adaptors with the correct printers? The wrong power adaptor may cause damage to the internal electronics.
- Have the batteries been removed to prevent leakage while stored? Batteries should always be removed if the printers are not being used.
- Have print heads been cleaned so the unit is ready to go when it’s needed? Print heads should be cleaned on a regular basis to ensure quality reliable results.
- Have you printed a test label to ensure the printhead and transport system all perform to the manufacturers’ standard? Having the printer and supplies fully operational means less down time and higher efficiency while reducing costs.
If you are unable to answer any of these questions or are unsure how to proceed, Neumann Marking Solutions can test, estimate the repair and report back. Estimates are free and notification of the printer status is usually the next day. Call to schedule your printer maintenance.
Don’t forget about summer care with your label printing supplies.
Summer heat can be bad for label and heat shrink cartridge supplies. Incorrect storage can damage the print ribbons. For example, label and heat shrink cartridges should never be stored on the dash of a vehicle or in a high heat environment. If the printed legend looks “washed out, uneven or wavy” it may be caused by the print ribbon being exposed to high heat which causes deterioration.
