Don’t be left in the dark during a power outage!
Power outages can have varying degrees of effect on an organization’s ability to function, but safety and security are a priority for all when the lights go out. Identifying important equipment and way-finding access makes these occurences safer.
A number of our suppliers have glow-in-the-dark/phosphorescent label tapes to help you be prepared in the event of a power failure, emergency or disaster. These labels guide the way to emergency evacuation routes, such as in stairwells or to emergency exits.
These are used anywhere visibity is needed in low-light situations, such as when the sun sets, to protect night workers with glow-in-the-dark labels on uniforms and essential equipment. Label tools, back-up power generators, fire extinguishers, PPE clothing and any item you may need to identify in an emergency or when there is little or no available light.
The science behind this glow-in-dark material is phosporescence, a process in which light is absorbed by a substance and slowly released back. The label material is “charged” by normal light and then glows when in a darkened room. The phosporescent material used in these labels returns its absorbed light back slowly over several hours. Oddly, phosphor, from which the name of this process is derived, doesn’t simply absorb and discharge light – it discharges light and heat which is why it’s used in military weapons!
Glow-in-the-dark labeling is just one example of safety labeling that can help keep workers and property safe and protected.
